Do King Size Comforters Work on Round Beds?

A round bed brings a distinctive, modern piece into any bedroom. Most round beds are custom built for hotel and motel suites, but some manufacturers offer round beds directly to the public. Because the beds are custom built, comforters and other bedding isn’t available at most retail stores. The size of the bed will determine if the king-size comforter works.
  1. Bed Size

    • A round bed’s diameter is typically between 72 and 108 inches, depending on the manufacturer. A standard king-size mattress is 76 inches wide and 80 inches long. The size of a standard king mattress is close to the height and width of a square. To find the size of the round bed’s mattress, measure its diameter by using a tape measure.

    Comforter Size

    • King-size comforters are approximately 90 inches wide and 106 inches long. This allows the comforter to hang about 15 inches over the sides and bottom of the king-size bed. The comforter is generally close to the length and width of a larger “square” for the king-size bed.

    Circle to Square Ratio

    • The general ratio of a circle compared to a square is 10:9. The length and width of the king-size comforter should be 10 percent larger than the size of the round bed to cover the entire bed. The king-size comforter will cover a small, 72 inch round bed, but only the top of the bed and some of the mattress’s edges will be visible.

    Décor

    • Although a king comforter cannot fully cover a round bed, the king comforter is still a less expensive solution. To avoid costly custom ordering or having a seamstress make a custom round comforter, you can use the king-size comforter as decor. Select colors and patterns for the king-size comforter to add interesting textures to the color of the sheets and pillow cases on the round bed. After making the bed, fold the comforter in half and drape it across the bed in the middle to add a decorative look.
