How to Set Up a Queen Size Waterbed

Setting up a waterbed isn't difficult, but it is important to do everything in the proper order. Especially important is to remember to have the bed exactly where you want it before beginning to fill it with water. Once filled, the bed will be difficult to move without first draining it.

  Assemble the included foundation. The pieces slide together at their corners and form a large rectangle. This should be assembled where the bed will be used.

  Assemble the sides of the bed. Using the included screws, attach the two long side pieces to the shorter end piece. Using the included hardware, secure these pieces to the foundation.

  Place the included headboard against a wall with an outlet within reach of the bed. Attach the foundation to the headboard using the included screws.

  Insert the plastic-sealed heating coils into the center of the foundation. Place the heater's cord along the groove in the foundation and use a screwdriver and the included hardware to attach the thermostat to either side of the bed.

  Spread the vinyl liner on top of the heating coils, smoothing out all wrinkles. Place the waterbed mattress on the vinyl liner, making certain that it is centered and that the fill valve is at the foot of the bed.

  Attach the included faucet connector to a faucet and attach a hose to the faucet connector. Attach the waterbed filler connector to the hose and screw into the fill valve on the bed. Fill with tepid water.

  Check the position of the mattress after filling the mattress with 2 inches of water. Any more water than this and the mattress may be to difficult to move. Resume filling the mattress until it reaches the desired firmness.

  Remove the hose and screw the filler cap into place. Plug the heater into an available outlet and set the temperature to the desired level. Make the bed.
