How to Help a Sagging Mattress

A sagging mattress can cause back pain and be detrimental to your overall health. Because a sagging mattress fails to support your body properly, you may develop spine problems, in addition to any sleep issues you may be experiencing. While you should eventually replace a sagging mattress, extending its life is possible by reinforcing or rotating it. You may even find that the problem lies with your box spring, rather than the mattress itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the box spring for broken springs. After years of use, the springs sometimes snap or crumple under constant pressure, leading to a sagging mattress. If numerous springs have broken, replace them with a new box spring.

    • 2

Reinforce the mattress by placing something underneath it, such as memory foam or plywood. While this does work, be aware that it is only a short-term fix.

    • 3

Turn your mattress over. If one side of your mattress is sagging, the other side may still hold up for little while longer. However, this won't help if the box spring is broken.

Add a pillow-top mattress pad to your mattress. There are numerous types of pillow-top mattress pads, but any type can help a sagging mattress. The different types include memory foam, wool and latex foam.
