Can You Leave a Murphy Bed Made Up?

Murphy beds are ideal for small spaces or rooms with dual purposes because they are easy to stow away upright and against the wall after use. The beds fold up into wall cabinets that double as library book shelves or office desks during the day, and they open easily and secure directly to the floor at night. Many are designed with straps that hold blankets and pillows in place when the bed is stored. However, some Murphy beds must be stripped of all blankets and pillows to fit in the cabinet space; this will be apparent if it won't close with the bedding in place.

Instructions

    • 1

Make up the bed, tucking in sheets and blankets tightly around the mattress. Leave pillows under the sheets and blankets to hold them in place.

    • 2

Strap the blankets and pillows in place using the straps provided. Most Murphy beds require at least two straps -- one for the foot area of the bed and one to hold the pillows in place. Cinch the straps tight against the bedding.

    • 3

Close the bed slowly, making sure blankets and pillows stay in place. If not, lower the bed and reattach the straps. If a pillow does slip out of place, retrieve it from the bottom of the Murphy bed cabinet.
