How to Make a Mirrored Bed

Headboards come in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes. They can be made from wood, metal or any number of other materials. One unique headboard style is a mirrored-covered headboard. Purchasing a mirrored headboard from a furniture store is an option. However, be prepared for a large price tag. If you want a mirrored headboard without breaking the bank, build your own. The construction requires little more than mirrored tiles and plywood.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of 1 1/8-inch plywood for the base of the headboard. For a twin bed, cut the plywood to 24 by 48 inches. For a full or queen bed, cut the plywood to 24 by 60 inches. For a king bed, cut the plywood to 24 by 84 inches. If necessary, use two pieces of plywood to reach the required size. Attach the two pieces of plywood together using a metal brace placed over the seam where the two pieces of plywood meet. Secure them with wood screws.

    • 2

Secure picture-hanging rings on the back of the plywood using 1-inch wood screws. Place the first ring 2 inches down from the top edge of the plywood and 2 inches in from the left edge of the plywood. Place the second 2 inches down from the top edge and 2 inches in from the right edge of the plywood. Place additional rings every 4 to 6 inches between the first two.

    • 3

Paint the plywood with flat, latex wall paint. Use multiple coats if necessary to completely cover the wood. Let the paint dry four to five hours between coats.

    • 4

Apply mastic adhesive designed for mirrors to the back of 12-by-12-inch unframed, beveled-edge mirrors. Place the mirrors on the plywood. Start with one on the top left corner, making sure the edges are flush with the edge of the plywood. Place the second flush with the first. Continue this way until the entire plywood sheet is covered. Let the construction adhesive dry overnight.

    • 5

Hang the bed frame on the wall using nails. Space the nails the same distance apart as the picture-hanging rings. Slide the picture-hanging rings onto the nails.

    • 6

Center a metal bed frame under the hanging mirrored bed frame.
