Most bunkbed systems allow the owner to separate the beds. Typically this involves unfastening screws or pins near the connection and lifting the top bed off of the bottom bed. You may need a screwdriver to accomplish this task. One of the considerations to make is whether the frame of the top bunk is build to stand on the ground in terms of how it is constructed.
Although separating bunkbeds may make practical and comfort sense, you need to make sure that you have enough room in the bedroom to fit two beds. Before separating the beds, measure the room along with the length and width of the top bunk to make sure you have enough space.
When purchasing beds for children, remember to include bunkbeds as an option, even if you do not have another child to fill the other bed. Bunkbeds that separate give you the flexibility that you may need down the road both from a space and decoration standpoint.
Some children do not like sleeping on the top or bottom of a bunk bed. This is due to a fear of heights or a fear of being enclosed. Separating bunkbeds would eliminate this fear and allow your child to sleep easier at night. Separating bunkbeds may also be safer for little children because it removes the upper bunk that they can fall off of.
