Make the platform from two boards measuring 39 inches by 10 inches by 1 inch and two boards measuring 75 inches by 10 inches by 1 inch. Lay the boards in a rectangular shape, making a large box. The sides measure 75 inches, the top and bottom measure 39 inches and the box should be 10 inches tall.
Apply wood glue to the edges of each board and press the boards together. Attach wood clamps to the edges of each board. The clamps firmly hold the pieces together until the wood glue dries. Wipe a damp cloth over the edges, just to remove any leaking glue.
Place a 1 ½-inch wood screw on one corner, where two boards meet. Sink two screws into the wood. Work your way around the platform box, sinking two screws into each corner. The combination of screws and glue keeps the platform together.
Arrange ten 39-by-2-by-2-inch wood boards across the top of the platform. Evenly space the boards across the platform. Each board should sit flush with the edges of the platform. Sink two wood screws into the end of each board, tightening the screws into the platform.
Drill holes through the metal bed frame. Space the holes across each side, making one hole every 2 inches. Turn the platform frame upside down so that the support side touches the floor and place the metal frame on top.
Attach wood screws through each hole in the metal bed frame. Tighten the screws until each one sits flush with the metal. The screws firmly hold the bed frame to the platform. Turn the bed upside down again and set the mattress on top of the platform.
