Remove all clothes or any other items from the dresser and place them in plastic baggies. Put the clothing in a freezer for four days to help kill any stray termite eggs that may have stuck to them.
Slip on rubber gloves and spot clean the dresser with liquid termite treatment. This typically either comes in a spray or other condensed liquid form. Remove the drawers from the dresser and spray in the treatment, which is designed to kill the insects, anywhere you spot signs of infestation. Wash your hands thoroughly after using the treatment.
Lay termite traps in the drawers. Termite traps contain bait and poison. The termites will take the bait and poison unknowingly bring it back to the center of the colony, where it will be distributed and gradually kill off the population.
Take the dresser outside and leave it there over four nights during the winter months if you live in an area that gets below 20 degrees Fahrenheit during the cold season. Termites cannot tolerate extreme cold and will die within a few days.
Lace that dresser with borate termite treatment after you have eliminated the infestation. This treatment coats the wood of your dresser like paint and acts as a repellent to prevent future infestations.
