Take the drawers out of the dresser and remove the knobs or pulls. Set them aside.
Wash the areas you are painting with trisodium phosphate (TSP). This cleaner removes any residues and leaves the surface clean. Rinse with plain water and dry carefully.
Tape the areas around the sides of the dresser with painter's tape so you get a nice clean line when painting. Cover the remaining dresser with plastic bags to cover them since you are using spray paint. Tape the bags in place.
Set the dresser on a drop cloth or layers of newspaper in a well-ventilated area. Outside works the best because you don't have to worry about containing the paint as much.
Shake the paint can and spray the front of the dresser to cover with a light coat of paint. Wait 30 seconds and then apply a second coat. Make sure the entire dresser front is covered in paint.
Wait 24 hours and recoat the dresser. For the best results, apply a third coat after another 24 hours. Let the paint cure for 24 hours before reassembling the dresser.
