How to Remove the Drawers From an Armoire

Emptying and removing the drawers from an armoire makes the piece lighter when moving. There is no single way to remove an armoire drawer. Many manufacturers use a catch mechanism to prevent the drawers from pulling completely out accidentally, while other manufactures use no catch or track system at all. The catch systems are similar to the slides and locks on kitchen cabinets and some appliance drawers. Regardless of the armoire, no tools are needed to remove the drawers.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the drawers and remove the contents. Open one drawer at a time and close it before opening another drawer. This helps prevent the armoire from tipping over accidentally.

    • 2

Extend the top drawer fully. Some armoire drawers simply pull straight out of the unit. If your drawers do not simply pull out, look for latches on the side slides or bottom of the drawer.

    • 3

Press the left-side latch up, and push the right-side latch down if your drawer uses latches that pivot into the front of the side slides. Once you unlock the latches from the slides, pull the drawer out of the armoire.

    • 4

Grab the side of the drawer with your hands, if your drawer has tabs protruding through a groove on the slides. Press the tabs toward the drawer with your thumbs, and pull the drawer out of the unit.

    • 5

Push up on the lever tab under the rear of the drawer, if your armoire drawer uses a lock tab underneath. Pull the drawer forward while holding the lever tab against the bottom. Remove the drawer from the armoire. Repeat for the remaining drawers in the armoire.
