Measure the 1-by-2 board and make a mark with a pencil every foot. Extend these marks to make a line across the board.
Cut the board at each mark. Use a hand sander to sand any rough edges of the boards.
Arrange the eight pieces of wood on the work surface to make four “L” shapes, and add a bead of wood glue along the seams. Clamp the “L” shapes together at the seams by tightening a C-clamp over the seam. Set aside to dry.
Measure on the ceiling to find the corners of the bed using a tape measure. You can either measure from the wall the bed is pushed against to the length of the bed, or hold the end of the tape measure on the ceiling and allow it to drop to the floor to see where the corner is. Make a small dot with a pencil at each corner.
Measure the distance from the ceiling to the floor and add extra if you want the fabric longer. Add one more foot of length. For example, if your ceiling is 8 feet and you want the fabric to pool at the corner of the bed, add 8 feet plus 2 feet. Then, add an additional foot of fabric for the overhang at the top, giving you 11 feet in length. Cut four pieces of fabric to this length with scissors.
Sew a 1-inch hem all the way around the fabric pieces. Measure 1 foot from the top edge and sew a straight line across the fabric panels.
With the L-shape pieces flat on the table, make a dot at each corner of the L-shape 1 inch from the edge of the wood. Repeat for each L- shape piece.
Drill pilot holes at each dot with a one-quarter inch drill bit.
Line the L- shape piece on the ceiling so the dot that indicates the corner of the bed is on the inner corner of the L. Install with screws into each pilot hole. Repeat for each corner of the bed.
Find the straight line across the fabric at the 1 foot mark and fold the fabric over with the top edge on the outside, staple the fabric to the board every inch, bunching just slightly to create small pleats. Repeat for each fabric panel.
