What Color Bedroom Furniture Goes With Lilac Walls in a Master Bedroom?

Lilac is a daring color to use for bedroom walls. Its bright appearance is easy to overdo. In a bedroom with lilac colored walls, be careful to select the right color furniture to complement the lilac without either neutralizing it or sending it over the top with other bright and clashing colors.
  1. Cream

    • Cream is a neutral color, and can provide a grounding and non-clashing complement to bright lilac walls. In a bedroom, a cream-colored bedspread accented with pillows or other accessories that are the same color as the walls can help to bring the room together into a harmonious whole. Cream or off-white dressers, chairs and desks will anchor the color scheme of the room by combining the weighty presence of furniture with uplifting light tones. Add artwork and decorations that feature flowers in cream and lilac colors to bring the whole composition together.

    Natural Wood

    • Natural wood furniture offers a spectrum of attractive colors. Because the textures of natural wood are so different than paint on a wall, the surfaces of wooden furniture will complement rather than compete with lilac walls. An imposing wooden headboard on your bed surrounded by brightly colored lilac walls creates an interesting range of effects. Experiment with a range of wood colors, from the light, airy feeling of maple and beech to the dark formality of walnut.

    Yellow

    • Lilac is related to purple, which is a combination of red and blue. According to color wheel theory, the color that lies opposite purple on the wheel, and thus combines with it most attractively, is yellow. Be aware that a bedroom with lilac colored walls and yellow furniture will be a very bright bedroom indeed, but this does not mean that it will be unattractive, as long as the colors are combined carefully and not overdone. When combining lilac and yellow, use more muted tones of both colors rather than neon-bright hues. A deep yellow upholstered chair in front of a muted lilac wall creates a look that is bright and cheery but not gaudy. Bright color schemes like this are popular in bedrooms for children.

    Green

    • Some hues of green furniture harmonize well with lilac walls. A deep green bedspread will anchor the liveliness of lilac while continuing the theme of plant-based colors. Green painted nightstands and dressers create colorful focal points to offset the lilac walls. Lilac and green both exist in a wide range of hues. At your local paint store, you can find many samples of available colors along these spectrums. Take some samples home and experiment with them in your bedroom to determine what combinations are most pleasing for you.
