How to Dress Up a Headboard

Paint isn’t the only way to change the look of a headboard. Upholstery tacks have changed throughout the years from the original design and now offer decorative heads in different sizes. Changing the look of a headboard with upholstery tacks or brads is inexpensive and allows your creativity to shine. Instructions

    • 1

Remove the headboard from the frame, and place it on a hard work surface. The headboard is attached with screws or bolts.

    • 2

Sketch a design to display on the headboard. Draw the design on paper, and use it as a template if the design is complicated. Tape the paper to the headboard.

    • 3

Hold the tack and carefully hit the tack into the wood using a rubber mallet. A hammer will damage the head.

    • 4

Continue to add the tacks, and remove the paper when all the tacks are in place.

    • 5

Reattach the headboard to the bed frame.
