Instructions

    • 1

Sand the entire nightstand with 100-grit sandpaper. This will remove previous paint and create a smooth, fresh surface to paint on. For a larger nightstand, use a sander, which will be easier on your hands than sandpaper. Sandpaper can be used for smaller areas or for a little nightstand.

Wipe the debris away with a soft cloth once you are finished sanding. Use a damp cloth if there is a lot of sand and dust, then wipe it dry with another cloth. All the dust must be removed for the best results possible.

    • 3

Brush primer onto the nightstand. Primer is necessary before you paint a piece of wood furniture so the paint will have a better surface to cling to. Use two or three coats of primer, and make sure they are thin. Primer doesn't need to be clumpy or caked on. It doesn't matter how neat the primer looks. Allow the primer to dry completely.

Paint the nightstand. Use thin, even strokes to cover the nightstand with paint. Wait 15 minutes in between each coat, and do as many coats as you would like. With thin coats of paint, more coats can be added to create the look you desire. Allow the nightstand to dry for at least one full day before use.
