Instructions

  1. Elaborate Space Saver

    • 1

Build two seven-feet tall cabinets that are the same width as a pair of bi-fold doors. Screw the units into the wall on each side of your bed with three-inch screws and a screw gun.

    • 2

Build another 12-inch high shelving unit that is the same width as the bed and cabinets combined. Rest it horizontally on top of the two vertical cabinets. Screw it into the cabinets using one-inch screws.

    • 3

Install hanging rods in the vertical cabinets that flank the bed. Attach your bi-fold doors to them with hinges.

    • 4

Disassemble one set of bi-fold doors, leaving the hinges in place on one side. Screw the hinges along the top of the horizontal cabinet above the bed. This complete headboard unit provides his and her closet space as well as storage for loose change, books and wallets.

    Transitional

    • 5

Erect a simple headboard above your bed without ever touching a nail or screw. Paint two pairs of bi-fold doors with spray paint that complements the rest of your bedroom decor.

    • 6

Latch the two pairs of bi-fold doors together in the middle with hinges and screws.

    • 7

Stand the bi-fold doors between your bed and the wall in a zigzag pattern so they stand erect on their own. This simple headboard is a quick fix if you are subletting or in transition.

    Faux Window

    • 8

Order a vinyl mural that depicts a nature scene to paste above your bed.

    • 9

Install cam lights in the ceiling so that they shine on the mural.

    • 10

Install a set of bi-fold doors, screwing the hinges directly into the wall, on either side of the mural.

    • 11

Open the doors a few inches to catch a glimpse of the scenery as seen through your faux window.
