How to Keep a Metal Bed Frame From Sliding

Metal bed frames often have wheels that may cause your bed to slide around. While your metal bed frame may be beautiful to look at, a bed that slides and moves frequently can scratch and damage hardwood floors. Whether your metal bed is old or new, there are a number of ways you can keep your metal bed frame in place so your room stays organized and your floors protected.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Place a bed riser under each of the wheels or feet of your bed. Bed risers are small glass, rubber or metal holders that keep the feet of your metal bed in place. Lift up the leg of your bed a few inches, and slide the bed riser into place. Lower the leg of your bed into the riser.

Use a pair of scissors to cut a foam kitchen pad into a small square. The foam should be big enough to cover the space beneath your metal bed foot or wheel. Place one piece of foam under each foot of your bed. Foam kitchen pads are small square pads that are frequently used to hold hot dishes or keep kitchen items in place. The foam will not only keep your bed from sliding, but will protect hardwood and laminate floors from scratches.

Place a piece of thick felt under each leg of your bed. Extra-thick felt is designed to keep chairs, tables or beds in place. Cut each piece of felt so it is the same size as the bottom of your bed foot. Remove the adhesive strip on the back of the felt to attach it to your bed.

Replace the wheels on your bed with bed glides. A bed glide is a small rubber insert that not only takes the place of a wheel, but also holds your bed firmly in place to the floor. Twist or pull the base of the wheel from the bracket of the leg. Push the glide firmly into place. Most glides do not require screws and take only a few minutes to install.
