How to Build a Log Headboard

Lay the two 60-inch birch logs on the floor horizontally. Then lay the two 30-inch logs vertically, one on each side of the of the horizontal logs to form a rectangle. Space the shorter logs 20 inches apart so that 10 inches is left at the bottom of the headboard to attach to the bed frame.

Drill holes 1 1/2 inches deep into the ends of the long logs. Line up the horizontal, long logs with the shorter, vertical logs and drill holes into the sides of the vertical logs where you want to attach the horizontal logs. Secure the logs with four wood screws to make the frame for the headboard.

Turn the headboard frame over so the front of it is on the floor. Lay the thin branches vertically between the top and bottom of the headboard. They should be spaced about two inches apart. Affix the branches to the headboard frame with a drill and wood screws. Trim excess wood from the top and bottom of the headboard with a circular saw.
