How to Cover Dresser Drawers With Material

One of the most classic ways to perk up an old dresser is to add liner paper to the interior of the drawers. Using fabric for this task instead of paper takes this concept a step further and opens up a whole world of possibilities in both design, pattern and texture. From funky retro cottons to elegant brocaded velvets, fabric-covered drawers can serve as a private delight that you will get to glimpse each time you open the drawer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the drawers from the dresser.

    • 2

Measure the interior bottom of each drawer. Record these measurements on sticky notes placed on each drawer for reference.

    • 3

Measure and cut the pieces of fabric to match the size of each of the drawers.

    • 4

Spray each piece of fabric with spray starch. Allow the fabric pieces to dry.

    • 5

Pour a small amount of decoupage medium into a bowl. Dip the foam paintbrush into the bowl and coat the bottom of each drawer in a thin layer of the medium.

    • 6

Place one starched fabric piece into a drawer. Press evenly across the surface to ensure that the distribution of decoupage glue and fabric are consistent. Repeat this process for each drawer.

    • 7

Allow the glue to dry for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer. Replace the drawers in the dresser.
