Information on Simplicity Baby Cribs

Simplicity cribs were a popular choice for many parents on a budget. They offered convertible cribs to adapt to your growing child. But Simplicity cribs were also the subject of several major recalls.
  1. Cribs

    • Simplicity cribs were available in a 3-in-1 style. You could convert them into toddler beds by removing the drop side and installing toddler rails, then into daybeds by removing the toddler rails. Simplicity 4-in-1 cribs also had an end piece that converted into a full-size headboard.

    Bassinets and Play Yards

    • Simplicity also manufactured co-sleepers, convertible bassinets and play yards. Some of Simplicity’s nursery items carried the Graco name.

    Crib Recalls

    • Between 2005 and 2009, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued major recalls of Simplicity cribs. These cribs each had a drop side that a child could detach from the crib. Several children strangled to death while trapped between the detached drop side and mattress.

    Bassinet and Play Yard Recalls

    • The CPSC issued recalls for Simplicity bassinets in 2008. These bassinets had metal bars that a child could expose and become trapped in, leading to strangulation. The play yards could collapse without warning, leading to recalls in 2009.

    Simplicity Closes

    • The Wall Street Journal reports that Simplicity went out of business in 2008. The CPSC says that SFCA Inc., which bought Simplicity, also appears to no longer be in business. Parents who own these products should stop using them and contact the original retailer for returns.
