How to Place a Bed in a Corner of the Room

In feng shui decorating, a bed angled in the corner of the room is considered to be in the strongest place. In this position, the bed draws energy from two walls rather than one. Whether or not you follow the principles of feng shui, placing your bed in the corner of the room is visually interesting--and it creates additional floor space.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw out the room on a piece of graph paper using a 1 inch to 1 foot scale. Mark doors and windows.

    • 2

Measure each piece of furniture that will go into the room. Draw a representation of each item on graph paper using the same scale. Cut out each furniture drawing.

    • 3

Lay out the furniture cutouts on the room drawing. Leave at least 18 inches of clearance around each item of furniture. Leave enough space for doors to open and close without obstruction. Rearrange the furniture cutouts until you are happy with the results.

    • 4

Begin placing the actual furniture into the room. Attach a sturdy headboard to your bed if it does not already have one. Place the bed in the corner at an angle. Add the rest of the furniture, adjusting as necessary.

Place a lamp or large potted plant in the corner behind the bed for added visual interest.
