How to Raise a Twin Bed

Whether in a dorm room or at home, it seems as though there can never be enough storage space. For this reason, we often look to our beds to get an extra few feet here and there.

There are lots of ways to raise a twin-sized bed (stacking wood, cinder blocks or making risers at home), but here we examine a safe and easy way to be sure that your totes, boxes and other storage containers have a place to go.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the current height of your bed by placing the end of the tape measure on the floor and reading the number that is at the bottom of the mattress.

    • 2

Decide how high you would like your bed to be. This will determine which type of riser you need.

Order your risers. Some may be available for purchase on your college campus. General risers will give you a few inches. The Rack Raiser brand will give you up to 25 inches. See the Resource Section for more information on these two options.

Install your risers. For the plastic ones, place one under one of the legs and continue with each of the other three legs. The Rack Risers require that you flip your bed onto the side and tighten a few nuts by hand.
