Bunk Bed With Drawer Assembly Instructions

Bunk beds are an excellent piece of furniture for a child's room. They provide additional space, by lifting one bed over the other. A bunk bed with a drawer will provide even more room by offering a storage compartment for toys and books. This is a convenient option for parents, however, this contraption needs to be put together.
  1. Create the Frame

    • Most bunk beds with drawers start out with a frame that holds both the top and bottom bunk beds. The frame normally includes two sides that are attached via horizontal frame pieces. Inside of each resulting frame are the mattress supports. These run perpendicular to the long frame pieces and are typically installed on supports that run along the length of the frame, or they come pre-assembled. Attach the horizontal supports to the frame using the provided hardware (usually long wood screws, bolts or pegs) and then install the mattress supports.

    Add the Railings

    • Most bunk beds, including ones with drawers, include railings that are added to the horizontal frames. Attach them with wood screws or with the provided hardware. One-piece railings are the easiest to install, as they are inserted into brackets right on the frame. It is a simple one-step operation to add them to the bunk bed. They also provide a little extra rigidity to the frame. Use only the hardware provided, as glue or additional clamps are generally not necessary.

    Installing the Drawer

    • The drawer is usually the last piece to be assembled on your bunk bed. This drawer is typically shipped in five pieces, the four sides and the bottom piece, which is a large piece that is the size of the bunk bed itself. Assemble the four sides with wood screws or pegs as provided by the manufacturer. In this case, you can use wood glue on the screws for added durability. Then install the railings on the frame pieces, if they are not already installed. The tracks for the drawer are attached to the sides along the top or bottom with smaller 1/2-inch metal screws. Then the drawer is inserted into the track rails on the side frames of the bunk bed.
