Choose a dresser similar in width to the mattress being used. If the dresser selected falls significantly short in width, consider using two similar or identical dressers pushed together.
Select a dresser that is at least one foot higher than the top of the bed. You want the dresser to be above the mattress for visual appeal and extra storage. Use higher dressers for a more dramatic effect and to add height to the room.
Compare the height of the mattress with dresser drawers. Remove the handles on the drawers that are mattress height and below, so the bed can be pushed flush against the dresser face. Keeping the drawers in place can provide additional home and apartment storage for infrequently used items and off-season clothing.
Replace the handles above mattress height if needed. Choose handles that are simple in design and do not protrude too far from the dresser face. This will make resting your pillows, back and head more comfortable.
Once the handles have been removed or replaced, push the mattress flush against the dresser face. Add bedding and pillows to the bed as desired.
