Insert the skeleton key carefully that goes with the piece of furniture you are unlocking. Push the key all the way to the back of the keyhole.
Turn the key clockwise inside the keyhole until you hear a click. If you are unable to move the key clockwide, turn it counterclockwise until you hear the click. The clicking means that you have unlocked the lock. Some skeleton locks turn clockwise; others turn the opposite direction.
Return the key to the original position and remove the key from the skeleton lock.
Measure the dimensions of the keyhole with a measuring tape, if you do not have a skeleton key for your lock. Write down the dimensions along with the model number of the piece of furniture you have and take them to your local home improvement or furniture specialty store. Skeleton keys are made to work in many different similar locks. A representative at the store can likely offer to sell you a skeleton key that will fit your lock. Use the key as directed in Steps 1 through 3.
