How to Measure for Drawer Handles

A set of distinctive or unusual drawer handles can set a common dresser apart and make it more attractive. When you install drawer handles, there are several variations to consider as you plan the installation. Some drawer handles require one drilled hole and other drawer handles require two drilled holes. Take the time to measure for drawer handles carefully and accurately to prevent costly mistakes.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the face of the drawer from the left side to the right side with the ruler. Find the center width point, and make a mark with the pencil.

    • 2

Measure the height of the face of the drawer from the top to the bottom with the ruler. Find the center height point and make a mark with the pencil. The center width point and the center height point should intersect in the center of the drawer face. If you have only a center drawer handle, you are finished. If you have a double-hole drawer handle, proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Look at the underside of the drawer handle to determine the spread between the ends of the handle. Measure the spread with the ruler if you do not have this specification. Write the measurement down so you will not forget it.

    • 4

Divide the drawer handle spread by two. Write this figure down.

    • 5

Place the ruler at the center point on the drawer face and measure the number you figured from the previous step to the right of the center point. Place a mark at this point. Repeat the same process to measure the same distance to the left of the center point. Place a mark at this point also.
