Directions on How to Put a Futon Bed Together

A futon can help save space in your home, while still giving you a stylish furniture option. A futon converts from a sofa to a bed by sliding the frame up or down. Futons work well in spare rooms, children’s rooms and den areas. Your new futon may arrive in pieces that require assembly. Fortunately, putting a futon together is not difficult.

Instructions

Align the futon pieces. Place the two arm pieces parallel on the floor. Place the two stretchers horizontally between the two arms.

    • 2

Attach the arms to the stretchers. Pick up one arm and one stretcher. Align the arm and the stretcher by lining up the bottom holes on the arm with the two holes on the stretcher. Place a barrel nut into one hole on the stretcher with the grooves facing outward. Use the provided Allen wrench to loosely screw a screw through the top hole on the arm to the barrel nut in the stretcher. Repeat for the remaining holes.

Attach the back deck to the seat deck. Place the back deck flat on the floor. Align the seat deck to the bottom of the back deck. Locate the hinge points. Insert a clevis pin, the solid pin shaped screw provided with your kit, through the hinge first point and then secure it by placing a clotter pin, the two-pronged pin with ridged edges provided in your kit, over the clevis pin. Repeat for every hinge point on the decks.

Attach the slide rollers. Locate the hole on the top of the back deck. Place the slide roller over the top of the hole. Insert a clevis pin through the slide roller, ensuring it goes through to the hole in the back deck. Secure by placing a clevis pin over the clotter pin. Repeat for each slide roller.

Install the back deck and seat deck to the frame assembly. Insert the slide rollers into the vertical and horizontal grooves on the arm.

Tighten the screws on the stretcher with the Allen wrench.
