Measure and cut the sheet of plywood to 4-feet by 6-feet with a circular saw.
Lay out your fabric on a clean floor with the right side of the fabric facing the floor. Center two layers of the quilt batting on top of the fabric.
Place the plywood on top of the quilt batting and center it.
Trim the excess quilt batting so that is the same size as the piece of plywood. Trim the fabric so that you have 4 extra inches all the way around the plywood.
Pull the fabric up in the middle of one side and attach it to the plywood with the staple gun. Work on the opposite side and pull up and attach the middle of the fabric on that side, pulling the fabric tightly. Repeat with the other two sides.
Work from the middle of each side to the corners, pulling the fabric tightly and stapling it down to the plywood. Trim any excess fabric to remove any bulkiness, but remember that this is the back of the handcrafted headboard so no one will see it.
Use the measuring tape and chalk to make marks for the tufts. Measure out two rows with three buttons each. Use the staple gun to make a dent in the appropriate places and hot glue the buttons in place.
Take the headboard to the bedroom. Have a couple of friends hold the headboard where you want to attach it to the wall. Take measurements from the floor up to where the buttons are. Mark the wall with pencil or chalk.
Hold the flush mounts up to the wall and make marks through the screw holes. Pre-drill the holes and then screw the wall portion of the flush mount to the wall.
Attach the front portion of the flush mounts to the back of the headboard after taking careful measurements to make sure they will line up with the mounts on the wall.
