Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the each opening in the dresser where the drawers once sat. Measure the depth of the dresser from the inside lip of the dresser to the back of the dresser.

    • 2

Cut a piece of plywood according to the dimensions you found for each drawer opening to create shelves for the dresser. Draw the cutting lines using a pencil and carpenter’s square to ensure squared corners. Cut the shelves with a miter saw.

    • 3

Slide the plywood pieces into the drawer openings and use finishing nails to secure the plywood to the drawer mounts and guide at the sides and bottom of the drawer space.

    • 4

Store items on the shelves installed in the previous step. Slide clothing, books, DVDs, CDs or any other small items onto the shelves.

    • 5

Place plastic containers inside the openings to use as make-shift drawers. Find containers that fit into the openings or use several small containers in each space to store various items. You can also use purchased or handmade canvas or fabric storage bins as drawers for the dresser. The storage bins work to contain your items without allowing the items to fall down through the dresser onto lower shelves of the dresser.
