How to Make a Mirrored Dresser

Mirrored dressers, bookshelves, console tables, and buffets can add elegance to a room and help lighten up a dark space. However, mirrored pieces of furniture can be very expensive, making them out of reach for many homeowners on a budget. Covering an old dresser with a large mirror is a great way to reuse items that you already have on hand. This will also give you the chance to customize the look of the mirrored dresser to fit your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the dresser in preparation for paint. Once you have finished sanding the dresser with fine grit sandpaper, wipe away the dust with a damp cloth.

    • 2

Prime the dresser with a latex based painting primer. Use a paintbrush to prime the dresser. Let the primer dry until it is dry to touch.

    • 3

Paint the dresser in your desired color with a paintbrush and latex paint. Although you will be covering most of the surface of the dresser with mirrors, some paint will show through. Choose a paint color that will coordinate with the look you are trying to achieve. Give the dresser 2-3 days to dry completely before applying the mirrors.

Measure the dresser with a measuring tape. Get accurate measurements of the top, sides, and drawers. Decide whether or not you are going to cut the mirror to size yourself. Most glass cutting companies will cut the mirror to size for a small fee. You can also purchase a glass cutting kit at a home improvement store to cut the mirror yourself. Whether you cut the glass yourself or have someone cut it for you, make sure you get accurate pieces cut and small holes cut out of the drawer pieces for the drawer pulls.

Apply a small amount of construction adhesive to the back of the mirror pieces. One by one, glue the mirror pieces to the dresser. Make sure you line up the mirrors in the right places before you let the glue dry. Let the glue dry overnight.

Install new drawer pulls on the dresser. Use a screwdriver to screw the pulls on the drawers. Do not screw them in too tight or you may break the mirror portion of the drawer.
