Dog Bedroom Decor for Kids

Young dog lovers will enjoy the efforts to decorate their bedroom around a dog theme. By making a child's bedroom a place that he finds fun to be in, this could even help with the age-old problem of getting a child to go to bed.
  1. Mural

    • Find a local mural artist that can paint a canine scene on one of the bedroom walls. A local art or interior design student may welcome the experience to add to his portfolio, and do the job at very little cost. A colorful park scene featuring the child's favorite breeds of dogs, or favorite cartoon dogs, would be a great way to bring the bedroom alive.

    Fabrics

    • Fabrics with a dog theme can be used for bedding, drapes, throw pillows, bean bags and upholstery for chairs. Combine dog-patterned fabrics with bold solid fabrics and striped fabrics in the same color range or complementary colors to bring the room together.

    Books

    • Be sure to include a book ase full of dog books. Find an old bookcase at a flea market and paint it in dalmation spots. Fill the shelves with dog classics from Lassie to Pluto, and add a few dog ornaments from dog-shaped Pez dispensers to a dog-shaped savings bank.

    Plush Toys

    • No dog-themed bedroom would be complete without a selection of plush dogs. Mount a plush cat halfway up a wall, and mount a row of plush dogs chasing it. A plush dog could also be turned into a pajama case.

    Accessories

    • Replace drawer and cupboard handles with bone-shaped handles purchased from a craft or home decor store. Make a mobile from canine and bone shapes. Get the child to cut pictures of dogs from magazines and make a collage to frame on the wall. Embellish walls and furniture with paw prints, using a stamp purchased from a craft store. Find throws and rugs in fake fur fabrics.
