Instructions

    • 1

Apply wood stripper with a paintbrush following the manufacturer's directions.

    • 2

Remove the stripper with a stiff putty knife and steel wool. Repeat this process until all of the paint, lacquer or old stain has been removed.

    • 3

Fill any deep scratches or dent with stainable wood putty. Allow the putty to dry then sand to a smooth finish.

    • 4

Sand the entire armoire to a smooth finish. Clean the armoire with a damp rag to remove any sawdust.

    • 5

Apply a thin coat of wood stain with a rag. Allow the stain to dry, lightly sand, and then apply a second coat.

    • 6

Paint the armoire with polyurethane using a foam paintbrush. If the armoire will be exposed to water or other damaging elements, apply a second coat.
