How to Choose a King Size Bed

Different people have different comfort requirements. For example, you might decide that a king-size bed is the right choice for you. However, the decision doesn't end there. You need to do a little research before you can decide on the right king size bed for your needs. If you share a bed, a king-size bed can give you and your partner the space you need, but you should both be part of the buying decision.

Measure your space. Not all king-size bed frames will fit in your home. There needs to be enough space to get the mattress through stairwells, hallways and doorways to get to your bedroom, and the frame you choose needs to be able to fit in your space.

Be sure you'll have at least a few feet of space in front of the bed and enough room on the sides to comfortably get in and out of bed.

Research the difference between a king-size bed and a California king-size bed. Generally, California king-size beds are more popular and more readily available on the West Coast. A standard king-size bed is usually about 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, while a California king is 72 inches wide and 84 inches long.

Look for bed frames that match your bedroom décor. For example, you can find modern beds made of metal, or you can choose a more traditional and ornate look with a carved wood bed frame. Some other common types include sleigh beds, canopy beds and platform beds. All of these styles are available in king sizes.

Find the mattress that's best for you. The mattress is all about comfort, so you should try out as many as you can. The two most common types are spring mattresses and memory foam, which conforms to the shape of your body. Many different softness and firmness levels are also available in king-size mattresses.
