Make sure the wooden box you are using is clean and free of splinters. Lightly sand all the sides with fine-grit sandpaper, if necessary. Turn the box so that the open side is facing down.
Lay out the 4-inch-by-4-inch tiles over the top (formerly the bottom) of the box. Arrange a pattern you are happy with; if the tiles are different, use a tile cutter to make the edge tiles fit. Mark the back of each tile so that you remember where it goes, then remove them all.
Spread a thin layer of all-purpose adhesive evenly over the top of the box with a paintbrush. Wait about one minute for the adhesive to set a bit. Place the tiles back on the top of the box as desired; allow the adhesive to dry two to three hours.
Tile the side edges of the box, one at a time, the same way you did the top. Remember the let the glue dry completely before moving to another edge. Let the entire tabletop dry overnight.
Turn the tabletop over so that the open side is facing up. Set the first table leg into place, aligned with the corresponding corner. Using a pencil, mark where the outside edges of the leg are on the bottom of the tabletop; do the same for the other three legs.
Attach all four legs with hot glue. Use padded clamps to hold the legs in place for a few minutes while the glue dries, if necessary. Wait two to three hours before turning the table right side up and placing it next to your bed.
