Directions for Bed Risers

Bed risers are plastic or metal pieces that come in a variety of heights that are designed to make beds higher, either for storage or medical reasons. Risers range in price, based on height and manufacturer.
  1. Buying Bed Risers

    • Bed risers are available at numerous retail locations, including Target, Wal-Mart and Bed, Bath and Beyond. They come in different heights, based on how high a person wants to raise his bed. Some risers are adjustable and can be set to different heights.

    Installing Bed Risers

    • Because you are going to need to get to the bottom feet of the bed, you are probably going to want someone to help you. Remove the mattress and box spring, getting down to the bed frame. Place the base -- or widest end -- of the bed riser directly on the floor where you want the bed to sit. Bed risers are designed with an indentation in the top, which is for the bed frame and/or caster to fit securely into. Make sure each foot of the bed is securely in the bed riser before replacing the mattress and box spring.

    Safety

    • If you are looking to make your bed higher to provide extra storage, it is important to be safety minded as well. A higher bed could mean problems getting into it and problems getting out. Make sure the new high is comfortable.
