Listen for clicking noises while opening the drawer. Noises when the drawer is moved indicate friction between two surfaces. Pull out the drawer, check and tighten loose screws; also tighten loose screws within the cabinet itself.

    • 2

Inspect the drawer glides for misalignment or damage. Use a pair of pliers to reshape them -- or, if parts are broken, unscrew the glides and remove them. It may be necessary to replace the glides. Bring one complete glide to the hardware store to compare and purchase the appropriate glide. Properly install the new glides by screwing them into the cabinet and on the drawer.

Check the moisture levels of the room where the cabinet is located. Drawers swell due to water absorption. Kitchens and bathrooms are subject to high humidity levels periodically, which can warp wood. Using a wood plane, shave small portions off the drawer to enable it to fit more smoothly into the cabinet.

Tighten loose handles by tightening the screws located on the inside of the drawer. Missing handles pose a bigger challenge. Locate a replacement handle the same size with the same screw placement as the missing handle. Fasten it in place with screws from the inside the drawer and into the handle.
