How to Make Bed Stands

Measure the amount of space you have next to your bed for a bed stand. Keep in mind that if the bed stand is too big, it can hamper your ability to get into bed. Lay the pieces of the bed stand out on your floor, using a bowl to contain all the screws and bolts. Carpet can swallow small screws easily, leading to frustration and future foot injury. First rotate in the bolts and screws by hand to ensure that the connection is made properly and to avoid torqueing the structural member out of place. Once all the bolts and screws have been put in place manually, use a power driver to screw down the bolts and screws. Be careful not to tighten the screws too much, as some weaker woods like birch can split along their grain if placed under too much stress.

Place the bed stand in the space that you allotted for it and make sure that it fits, both measurement-wise and aesthetically. The bed stand should not wiggle or move when objects are placed on it. If it does, then go back and retighten the bolts and screws.
