Set Up Instructions for a Nautilus Sleep System

The Nautilus Sleep System is a discontinued air bed, manufactured by the health and fitness company Nautilus, Inc. The company sells fitness equipment and marketed the Fit Rest Sleep System to athletes as a combination mattress with both air and foam support. All Sleep System models had a remote control that adjusted your personal sleep comfort level, with a "Favorite" button to save the setting. Assembling a Nautilus Sleep System involves two different phases: setting up the frame or foundation, and setting up the air mattress.

Instructions

  1. Frame Set Up

    • 1

Lay out the side rails parallel to each other, with enough space in between for the cross boards. Attach the brackets to each side rail -- by lining up the pre-drilled holes of the bracket -- with the holes in the cross boards. Insert four screws for each bracket, and tighten them with your screwdriver.

    • 2

Slide the cross boards into the open end of the brackets, lining up the pre-drilled holes. Insert bolts into the holes, then secure with wing nuts and washers. Tighten all the screws.

    • 3

Add the head and foot boards to the frame, and secure them with corner brackets. The pre-drilled holes should be near the top of each bracket. Insert bolts into the holes, and add nuts and washers to keep them in place.

    • 4

Place the platform boards squarely on the frame, then secure each one with screws. Insert and tighten the screws on the outside boards first, then follow with the inside boards.

    • 5

Stretch the cover snugly over the edges of the frame, then roll the corners underneath and secure with the attached Velcro strips. Place the finished Nautilus foundation on any regular metal bed frame.

    Mattress Set-Up

    • 6

Spread the exterior ticking onto the frame, with the rectangular hole near the head of the bed, and insert the side foam rails. Insert the head and foot foam rails next, to form the interior foam support.

    • 7

Place the rectangular control unit into the corresponding hole in the head foam railing: Then pull the power cord down, through the ticking, and plug the end into an electrical outlet.

    • 8

Push the cord for the controller through the bottom of the ticking, and then plug it into the back of the control unit. Place the deflated air mattress in the foam supports, with the air valve near the control unit.

    • 9

Connect the tubes from the air mattress to the control unit, with the bigger tube fitting over the bigger valve, and the thinner tube fitting over the smaller pressure valve. Press the "Pressure" button on the controller, to inflate the air mattress.

    • 10

Place your comfort layer on top of the air mattress. Then join the central ticking and pillow top with Zipper B.

Attach the pillow top to the outside ticking with Zipper A, then set your desired firmness with the "Up" and "Down" arrow buttons on your controller.
