Problems With a Foldable Box Spring

Box springs are typically made in a stiff frame and cannot be compressed for easier transportation through doors and other areas. Folding box springs help with this problem, thanks to their ability to be folded in half. However, your folding box spring may have some problems during or after installation.
  1. Frame

    • Your frame may be split from an area that is not the exact center. Therefore, the mattress may not fold properly--it may either fold too much to one side or not completely fold over when you attempt to transport it, in addition to not folding out properly with the mattress when you attempt to place it in an area. Adjust the frame by hand if you made it on your own to correct this improper alignment. However, if you bought the frame from a certified dealer, contact the dealer for either a replacement or the service of a certified repair person who can fix the alignment.

    Installation

    • The installation of your frame may not have been done properly, whether you made your own folding frame or attempted to follow the instructions given by the frame's manufacturer. Also, the certified installation professional may have made a mistake during his setup of the frame, such as putting too much pressure on the wires and boards with his tools. This could prevent the frame from properly standing up, unfolding or withstanding bodily pressure. Fix this problem by checking your installation instructions and reassembling any parts that need a different configuration. You can also call a professional to come repair the mistakes made during installation.

    Surface

    • The surface on which the folding box spring is installed may not have the right properties for support. For example, if the spring is placed directly on a linoleum floor, with a mattress placed on top, the spring and/or mattress may move around when you get on or off the bed. Check the installation instructions that came with your spring to see the surfaces on which it is intended to be used, such as carpet. You can also try using a standing bed frame to hold the spring and the mattress, as the weight of the bed frame can prevent the box spring and mattress from moving around when you get on or off the bed.
