How to Reuse a Dresser for a Baby

Any dresser can be used for a new baby even if it doesn't seem to work with the rest of the baby's decor. Dressers can be decorated and re-purposed to fit the needs of a nursery. A dresser that you already have or one that you purchased used is all you need. Once installed in her room, the dresser can either be decorated specifically for use in the nursery or in a more classic manner so that it can be used as the child grows.

Instructions

    • 1

Give the dresser a facelift with paint. Sand the dresser lightly, paint it with a primer and then add coats of paint in a color or colors complementary to the nursery's decor. For added interest, decorate the dresser's top and drawer faces with themed stencil designs. Finish with a coat of sealant.

Convert the top of the dresser to a changing table by placing a thick changing pad on it. As an additional safety measure, add a rim by nailing trim around the dresser's top and painting it. Never leave a child unattended on any changing table.

Organize your baby's tiny clothing items inside decorative boxes placed in the drawers. This additional organization will keep small shoes, socks and other clothing items from getting mixed up.

Use empty drawers to store diapers, wipes and first aid items.
