How to Assemble a P5 Sleep Number Bed

Foundation Assembly

  Assemble the foundation. Once you have checked the contents of the box and decided where to place your Sleep Number bed, it is time to assemble the foundation. Place the foundation directly on the bed frame or on the floor. For bed frames with slats running horizontally across the frame, position the slats to support the foundation: one slat near the top, one in the middle and the last near the bottom.

  Locate the side rails. The Sleep Number bed includes side rails for the foundation. These are labeled "A" and "B". Connect the rails together with the locking mechanism and insert the side pin into the connecting pieces to hold them in place. Repeat this process for the beams on the other side.

  Insert the end beams. On either end of the foundation at the top and bottom sections of the bed, insert the end beams into the sides with tabs up and textured sides out.

  Insert the support beams. There are four support beams. Place two support beams in the center of the bed. Match the beam labeled "A" up with the "A" groove and the beam labeled "B" with the "B" grove. Push tightly into place. Slide the remaining support beams in place using the same method, placing one at the top and the other toward the bottom of the foundation.

  Slide the deck panels in place. The P5 Sleep Number foundation has panels that slip over the sides and slats for the foundation creating a top for the foundation. Simply slide the four panels outward to inward until they fit snugly. Once panels are in place, slip the coverlet over the pieces.

Assemble the Mattress

  Place the mattress cover on the foundation. The mattress can be heavy so you may need a helper to accomplish this. Make certain the holes in the bottom of the cover are at the head of the bed, as this is where the controls connect.

  Unzip the mattress cover. Take the mattress cover off and put it to the side. The interior of the mattress will be exposed and simple parts placed inside.

  Place the corner locks. There are four corner locks included with the assembly. Place one lock in each corner of the bed under the border wrap.

  Install the foam boarders. There are four foam boarders included with the mattress assembly. Place these along the sides of the bed length and width and under the border wrap.

  Install the air chambers. Set the air chambers in the mattress with the hose connectors facing the head of the bed.

  Connect the firmness control. Insert the hose marked "L" on the left side of the mattress and the hose marked "R" on the right side of the mattress. Use enough pressure on the hose until it clicks in place connecting to the mattress.

  Complete the set up. Inflate the air chambers using the remote. Install the foam comfort pad on top of the inflated air chambers, patterned side up, and tuck under the border wrap. Zip the mattress cover over the assembled piece and make the bed.
