Create space for your work area by moving any furniture in the room out of your way. Unpack the bunk bed boxes and take the packaging outside to keep your work area clutter-free or lay the boxes flat and work directly on them to protect your floor.
Look for the instructions inserted for reference and the hardware to be used. They might be found in a clear plastic pouch taped to a railing of the bunk bed. Separate the pieces of hardware in small containers or bowls so they will be easy to find when you need them. Some people find zip lock style bags come in handy when organizing the small pieces.
Carefully read the instructions and note what the different parts are used for and when to use them. If possible, line the parts up in order so you don't have to go searching during each step.
Work with the lower bunk first by attaching the side rails to the foot board and headboard. You will need a wrench for this process to tighten the bolts and nuts. Place and tighten the bolts in all four corners. Move the bed to its final spot.
Insert the lower bunk planks into the side rails. Screw the planks into the predrilled holes.
Work with the top bunk while it's on the floor. Attach the side rails to the top footboard and headboard. Insert the planks and use nuts and bolts to fasten the guard rails to the top bunk.
Lift the top bunk to its proper position with the help of your partner. Put the connector pins into predrilled holes to attach the two beds.
Set up the ladder by attaching it between the head and the guard rail. Make sure that all parts are securely fastened in place. Do not use the bed without checking everything.
