Study the room where you want to install the wood box bed. Install the wood box bed against a sturdy wall and make sure there is ample room for opening the doors, if the bed has doors with hinges. Check the ceiling height to make sure it is adequate, especially if you are installing a double-decker wood box bed. Also, try to avoid blocking a heating vent or radiator, especially if it is the only vent in the room.
Use a furniture moving dolly to lift a corner of the bed. Slide a piece of heavy duty felt beneath the corner. Repeat this process until you have felt under each corner.
Get three strong friends to help you. Position a person at each of the four corners. Slowly slide the bed into position. Tell your helpers to keep an eye on the felt under the corners to make sure the pieces don't slide out of position.
Once the bed is in position, place a level on the top and sides of the bed in several places. If the bed is uneven, put shims beneath the bed to even the bed out. Making sure the bed is even will keep it from creaking and will also lengthen its life, especially if it is an antique bed.
Use a bookcase wall anchor to secure the bed to the wall in at least one place. Make sure that you insert the wall anchor into a wall stud. Secure the wall anchor with a wood screw using an electric drill.
