Use unexpected furniture for your vanity base. Look for furniture that is waist height so when you are seated, you can see everything above your chest. Transform an old wood desk, hallway table or kitchen buffet into a bedroom vanity. Look for a durable and easy to clean material such as wood, a decorative style you enjoy, ample workspace and room for storage. Stain or paint the furniture to match your current bedroom suite. Place your new vanity base up against the wall opposite your bed.
Reupholster a stool or small chair with fabric matching your bedroom decor. Pull colors from window treatments and bedding. If your current window treatments or bedding have pattern or designs, chose one color from the fabric for a solid color vanity seat. If your bedding and window treatments are solid colors, chose a patterned fabric with similar colors for your seat. Paint or stain the stool or chair to match the bedroom furniture.
Hang a large round or oval mirror a few inches above your vanity table. Make sure the mirror is at face level to get the most use out of your vanity. A larger mirror will give the illusion of more space in the room. Keep the frame as is or paint it a color found in your reupholstered vanity seat.
Enhance visual clarity in this intense concentration area by using task lighting. Use two bulbs on either side of the mirror at face level to provide bright light for your daily routine. Hang a low-hanging chandelier above the vanity to balance the two bulbs and give the space intention and luxury.
