How to Protect Wood Floors From Bed Legs

The finish on your hardwood floor comes with a topcoat that is designed to protect the floor from minor dings and scratches. However, some large piece of furniture can cut right through that protection when they are drug across the floor. Furniture that gets daily use, like a bed, can easily damage the floor directly beneath it, as the legs dig into the hardwood every time you get on or get off of the bed. To protect your floor, you need to install a buffer between the wood of your bed and the hardwood floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mattress and box spring from your bed.

    • 2

Tilt your bed frame over to one side, so that you have access to the bottom of the legs. If your bed is particularly large or heavy, enlist a friend to help you.

    • 3

Remove one felt pad from the packaging and place it over one of the bed legs. Have the metal ring on the bottom of the pad rest directly against the wood at the bottom of the bed leg.

    • 4

Tap the felt side of the pad with your hammer. Two to three solid strikes should drive it into the wood.

    • 5

Turn the bed over so it is right-side up again. Put your box spring and mattress back into place.
