Day Bed Instructions

Day beds are beds that can serve as a couch or extra seating during the day, and provide comfortable sleeping during the night. Day beds are an ideal solution for rooms that are not exceptionally large or need to do double duty. These beds are usually the size of a twin mattress, and the cushions are as high as a couch. If there is an area that needs both a couch and a bed, make a simple day bed that solves both problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the medium density fiberboard to size using the table saw.

    • 2

Install cleats around the perimeter, 1.5 inches from the top of the frame boards. Along the 10-by-76 inch pieces measure two feet from each end and mark with a pencil. Leave a one inch gap from the pencil line to the next cleat for cross supports. Now measure 1.5 inches from the bottom of the frame boards and install cleats around the perimeter.

    • 3

Attach one of the 10-by-76 inch boards to a 10-by-37 inch board with screws. Then attach the other 10-by-37 inch board to the other end. Finish the frame by attaching the last 10-by-76 inch board to the front.

    • 4

Turn the frame over and attach the metal brackets to each corner with screws. Screw in the bun feet to the brackets.

    • 5

Slide the 1-by-1 foot cross supports into the gaps between the cleats. Lay the 37-by-76 inch platform piece on the cross supports and paint or stain as desired.
