Slide a stud finder over the ceiling in your bedroom to find the ceiling joists. Lightly mark the location of the joists with a pencil, so you do not damage the bedroom ceiling.
Measure at least 2 1/2 feet from the wall to help you decide which joists to hang your traditional porch swing from. The 2 1/2 feet ensures you won't hit the wall when you swing.
Add 4 inches to the length of your porch swing measurement. Transfer and mark this measurement onto the ceiling at your installation location. The additional 4 inches helps disperse the weight of the swing on the ceiling.
Straighten two large paperclips. Poke the paperclips through the drywall in the ceiling at the installation location. The paperclips let you find the mounting location from inside the attic.
Access the attic and locate the paperclips next to the installation location for your traditional porch swing. Drill 1/2-inch holes down through the joists and through the ceiling with a 1/2-inch-by-8-inch wood drill bit.
Thread 1/2-inch nuts onto two 1/2-inch-by-8-inch eyebolts. Thread the nuts all the way to the eyebolt end of the bolt. Thread 1/2-inch flat washers onto the eyebolts and against the nuts.
Install the eyebolts up through the ceiling, through the joint and into the attic. From inside the attic, thread additional 1/2-inch flat washers onto the bolts and against the joist. Thread 1/2-inch self-locking nuts onto the bolts and tighten them with an adjustable wrench. Have a partner thread a screwdriver through the eye of the bolt and hold the screwdriver as you tighten the self-locking nuts in the attic.
Hook the chains from the traditional porch swing on the eyebolts installed in your bedroom ceiling.
