How to Get Rid of a Vanity

The popularity of a bedroom vanity---a small desk where a woman would sit to apply her makeup---has ebbed and flowed through the years. Many older vanties have some value as antiques, while mass-produced ones have little to no financial value. If there is any question about the worth of an older vanity it is reasonable to ask for a quick appraisal by an expert. Many can assess its value from a digital picture emailed to them. Otherwise, a vanity can be dispensed of without a look back.

Instructions

    • 1

Place an advertisement on a local, free Internet site. Value it reasonably, or even give it away for free if your priority it to remove it from the home. Attached pictures help readers know what they are getting.

    • 2

Call the local community college or high school theater group and ask them if they need a vanity as a prop for an upcoming production.

    • 3

Call a non-profit second-hand store and ask them to come remove the vanity, if it is usable condition and someone else can benefit from it.

    • 4

Set it out on the curb with a "free to anyone" sign on it. In many neighborhoods it will disappear within hours.

    • 5

Call the local fire department and ask them if they know of a family that has lost their belongings in a fire and did not have enough insurance to replace them. The family might be grateful for a nice piece of donated furniture.
