How to Build Your Bed off the Ground

The bed is usually the most prominent piece of furniture in a bedroom. It is important to choose the correct size for your situation and a style that appeals to you. Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean that the bed is as high as you would like it to be. This is especially true if you have items that you would like to store beneath the bed but find that the profile of your bed is too low. Raise your bed off the ground but hide the mechanics -- to have both the bed you love and plenty of storage space.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the correct bed frame lifts for your bed. Frames with four narrow, uniform feet such as classic iron designs are perfect for rectangular corner risers. Beds with headboards and footboards with long edges require longer edge risers.

    • 2

Lift one end of the bed with help. Slide a rectangular lift beneath each leg or position an edge lift in the center of the frame, depending on your type of bed. Carefully lower the bed into place on the risers.

    • 3

Repeat Step 2 with the opposite end of the bed. Dress the bed with a bed skirt long enough to hide the lifts. Make the bed with sheets and a blanket or comforter as you normally would.
