How to Make a Floating Canopy

Floating canopies are a type of decorative element used to surround a bed in a bedroom. This style of canopy is attached to the ceiling. To make your own floating canopy you will need to first determine which type of material to use for the frame. You can then begin the process of construction and hanging the canopy from the ceiling. Materials needed for this project can be found at any home improvement store.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and length of the bed with a tape measure. Add three inches to the width and length.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of teak wood to the width and two pieces to the length with the circular saw. Place each of the ends together to create a rectangle shape.

    • 3

Drill two pilot holes at each corner where two pieces of wood meet. Secure the pieces with screws using the power drill.

    • 4

Drill a 1/8-inch pilot hole at each corner of the teak wood frame. Insert an eye hook into each hole and tighten with the pliers.

    • 5

Lift the canopy frame and hold it up to the ceiling with the assistance of a helper. Mark the location of the eye hooks on the ceiling with the pencil.

    • 6

Drill a 1/8-inch pilot hole into the ceiling. Insert an eye hook into each hole and tighten with the pliers.

    • 7

Tie one end of the fishing line to the eye hooks attached to the teak frame. Life the teak frame up to the ceiling. Tie the fishing wire to the other set of eye hooks in the ceiling. The canopy will now appear to be floating below the ceiling.
