Remove the dresser's drawer pulls with a screwdriver. Set the hardware and the screws aside. Pull the drawers out of the dresser.
Fill in any unwanted holes or cracks with wood filler, but make sure you do not fill in the drawer pull holes. Smooth the wood filler with a putty knife and let it dry.
Sand the dresser drawer faces and the dresser itself with 100 grit sandpaper, following the grain of the wood. This removes any rough spots or slick finishes. Wipe the pieces with tack cloth to remove dust.
Shake a can of spray-on interior primer, then spray paint the dresser and the drawer faces with the primer. Hold the can 8 to 10 inches from the surface of the dresser, and apply the paint in long, even, overlapping strokes. Let it dry for two hours.
Apply the first coat of semi-gloss interior paint to the dresser with a paint brush. Follow the grain of the wood when painting. Apply a thin coat with overlapping strokes. Let the first coat dry for three to four hours, then apply the second coat.
Let the paint dry for 48 to 72 hours. Replace the drawer pulls and put the drawers back in the dresser.
